Dear Rod & others;
Yes! We need to get moving, and this works as much as anything else that
has been suggested so far.
One clarification: since it looks like I will be the actual Secretary of
the organization, we need to make sure that there will be no problem in
having a business license in the city of Garden Grove and a mailing address
in the city of Culver City. We have a choice between making my home address
the official address of the ALAA, or renting a P. O. Box in the ALAA's name
as soon as the business license is approved. It would be easier for me and
cheaper than renting a P. O. Box if we use my home address as ALAA's
address, but does this look too petty for the independent organization that
we want to set up? Rod, please verify that getting a business license in
Garden Grove will not preclude our renting a P. O. Box in another city as
our official address. If it will, I may need to take out the business
license in Culver City, and I will check to make sure this will not preclude
us from opening a bank account in Garden Grove.
This needs to be approved by the Committee, not the entire Discussion
Group, but we will be happy to get opinions from everybody. As soon as we
have opened our bank account, we will start calling in those $100 pledges
that were made last year, so we can afford to print & mail out the final
ballots and have this year's trophies made for presentation in June.
As long as I am writing, remember that the 2003 Ursa Major Awards
nominations close on the 15th; just five more days. I have not submitted my
own nominations yet, but I plan to do so within the next couple of days.
Our on-line nominations form is at:

Best wishes;
Fred

Subject: [UMA-discussion] Business Proposal
Okay, here is what I propose to do... with everyone's permission, if you
will grant it to me.
I propose to take out a business license for the organization
"Anthropomorphic Literature
and Arts Association (ALAA, right?), including the announcement of a
Ficticious Business
Name, in the city of Garden Grove.
I will then use that business license to open a bank account in ALAA's name,
most likely at
Wells Fargo Bank or some other large chain (suggestions welcome). For the
time being, the
folks able to sign and cash checks will include Fred Patten, Kay Shapero,
and myself (ie, the
folks physically closest to where the account will be opened).
For the time being at least, this means that I will become the de Facto
Treasurer and
Secretary for the ALAA, until we work out what to do next. Oh boy.
So, are people comfortable with this?
Rod O'Riley
Garden Grove
